Tip amount = bill × (tip percentage ÷ 100). Total = bill + tip. When splitting, the total is divided evenly across everyone at the table.

In the United States, 15% to 20% is typical for sit-down restaurant service, with 18% to 20% common for good service. Delivery and counter service often run 10% to 15%, and some people tip more for exceptional service or in high-cost areas. These are customs rather than rules. Tipping norms vary a lot by country, and in many places service is already included in the bill, so check before adding more.
Mental math: 10% is the bill with the decimal moved one place, 20% is double that, and 15% is 10% plus half of 10%.
Both are common. Many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal, while others tip on the full bill. The calculator applies the percentage to whatever amount you enter, so enter the figure you prefer.
Each person's share is rounded to the nearest cent for display. In the first example, 3 × $33.98 is $101.94 while the total is $101.95. Have one person cover the odd cent.
