The calculator subtracts your birth date from the target date year by year, then month by month, then day by day. If the target day of the month falls before your birth day of the month, it borrows the length of the previous month, the same way you would on paper. That handles different month lengths and leap years without any rounding.
In years that are not leap years, the calculator treats March 1 as the birthday. Someone born February 29, 2000 shows exactly 26 years, 0 months, 0 days on March 1, 2026. Different places use February 28 or March 1 for legal purposes, so check the rule that applies if an official age matters.
